Ponda: Tempo driver Sachin Kharade, 42, from Shirol Maharashtra was arrested on Monday by Ponda police for causing the death of motorcyclist Prakash L Gaonkar by negligence.
Ponda PI Vijaykumar Chodankar said a case against Kharade has been registered under Sections 279 and 304A of the IPC and he was subsequently arrested.
Kharade had driven his vehicle in a rash and negligent manner and had knocked down 55-year-old Gaonkar, a resident of Wagon-Dabhal in Dharbandora taluka, at Par-Khandepar on Sunday evening . The accident too place 7km from the Ponda police station.
Gaonkar was crushed to death by the tempo truck at. He was travelling towards Ponda on his scooter when he was knocked down by the speeding tempo and dragged for 50m. He died on the spot.
Gaonkar worked as a round forester at the research wing of forest department at Piliyem, Dharbandora.
