ALLEN PARK, MI – A 2-year-old girl is dead, and a 3-month-old is seriously injured after a car crash on northbound Southfield Freeway Wednesday night in Allen Park, FOX 2 Detroit reports.
The crash happened around 9 p.m. when the mother of the children was allegedly speeding in the right lane and hit a vehicle in front of her, then crossed the middle and left lanes before crashing into a barrier, police said.
The toddler was not secured by a seatbelt or car seat; she died in the crash, police said. The infant was in a car seat but secured only by a lap belt; the child was thrown from the vehicle and suffered serious injuries. The mother, a 30-year-old Detroit woman, may be impaired. The driver of the other vehicle was not injured.
This case is under investigation. No further details are available.
