The 18-year-old clocked at 118 mph while driving through Newtown told police he was using a Snapchat “speed filter,” although the app’s parent company said the feature was removed last year.

According to Newtown police, after pulling over the 2019 Tesla Model S early Tuesday morning, the officer saw the teen put away his cellphone.

The officer was familiar with the Snapchat filter and asked the driver if he was using it. The 18-year-old, who is from Canada, said he was, Newtown Police Chief Tom Synan told The Enquirer.

A spokesman for Snap, Inc. said that several years ago it changed the filter so it would be blacked out at speeds over 35 mph. Last year, the spokesman said, the feature was removed from the app entirely.
