New Madrid, MO (September 10, 2022) – A crash took place in new Madrid County that claimed one person’s life while leaving two others seriously injured. At 7:45 p.m., on September 7, several troopers with the Missouri State Highway Patrol responded to the scene of a crash on Interstate 55.
Preliminary reports show that a collision between a 2012 Chevrolet Cruze and a 2012 Mazda six occurred on Interstate 55 at the junction near US Highway 61. The crash blocked multiple lanes of the roadway while leaving both vehicles totaled.
The driver of the Mazda, 44-year-old Heather Polk, was fatally injured in a crash. She was pronounced deceased at the scene by New Madrid County coroner George Delisle.
The driver of the Chevrolet, 19-year-old Hannah McNabb, and her passenger, 21-year-old Jasmena Hedrick, were both injured in the crash. Hendrick was airlifted to St. Francis Hospital in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, for emergency medical care. McNabb was transported by ambulance to the same medical facility.
The crash is under investigation at this time.
