GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Jarod Benton Amburgey, 52, of Keystone Heights, was arrested yesterday and charged with stalking and sending death threats to a doctor at UF Health Shands.
According to a sworn complaint filed with Alachua County Sheriff’s Office, Amburgey is a former patient of the doctor and has sent at least 36 emails to the doctor since May from the email address listed in his file at Shands. One email in the complaint says that he lived “for 49 years on this without insanity. I’ve been infested with psychosis mania and sanity [sic] for the last three and a half years because of you. It’s [sic] still ain’t over but I am going to end it.” The emails also blame a medication for the problems he describes.
Although the doctor reportedly asked Amburgey to stop contacting him, Amburgey allegedly continued to send the emails; at least four of them reportedly communicated a death threat, and some include a demand that the doctor kill Amburgey.
Amburgey has been charged with four counts of sending written death threats and one count of aggravated stalking and is being held on $500,000 bond.
