FRASER, Christina Christina “Chris” Grant Fraser was born December 6, 1946 in Galveston, TX to Tom and Helen Mary Fraser. She died peacefully at home on September 8, 2022 in Santa Monica, CA, a week after suffering a massive stroke. She is survived by her partner of 37 years, Stephen Coppinger; sister Joan Fraser; niece Lisa Sullivan and her son Andrew Ballard; cousins Sally and Ron Chapman, Ruth and Lloyd Yost, Colin and Lonnie Clark and many more beloved relatives and cherished friends. Chris was BOI (Born on the Island) in Galveston, TX but spent most of her childhood in Dallas, TX. She graduated from Hillcrest High School in Dallas in 1964 and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in French and Italian from Texas Tech University in Lubbock, TX in 1968. Shortly after graduating college, she drove out to California with a high school friend to start a new chapter of her life. They lived at the Beverly Hills Hotel for several months while Chris’s friend pursued an acting career. Chris then moved to Santa Monica where she would spend the rest of her life, however, her allegiance to the Dallas Cowboys never waned. Chris worked in the insurance industry and medical malpractice claims for years and held jobs at Liberty Mutual, Swett & Crawford, Johnson & Higgins, SCPIE, and Farmers where she developed many lifelong friendships. Chris’s real love was animals, especially cats. She devoted a great deal of time volunteering for animal shelters and rescue organizations. Chris was a dedicated volunteer at spcaLA for many years. In fact, she rescued her beloved cat Mikey from an spcaLA shelter. For a time, she volunteered nearly every weekend at various animal shelters, participated on fund raising telethons and assisted with many mobile pet adoptions. She was recognized by spcaLA as Volunteer of the Year in 1998. Chris was a Volunteer Coordinator for the Humane Society of the United States Genesis Awards for many years. She volunteered at several other organizations including Pet Care Foundation, Best Friends, Catnippers and the Lange Foundation, among others. She was privileged to ride on a Pet Care Foundation float in the 2013 Rose Parade in Pasadena. Compassion for animals and people who loved and cared for animals was her special gift. As a “serial” volunteer, Chris motivated many others to get involved with volunteer activities. Chris also loved everything about Scotland. She traveled there twice where she did research on the Fraser family genealogy and visited many Outlander show locations. She even met the Scottish head of the Fraser family Lady Saltoun, Flora Fraser, when visiting Scotland. Chris felt the spirit of her ancestors and truly felt at home in Scotland. Chris dedicated her life to helping others, whether they had two legs or four, and being a loyal friend to many. She never missed sending a birthday message to her family and friends and always had kind and supportive words when people were going through difficult times. She fought through some challenging health issues in recent years and never complained. She will truly be missed. A memorial “Celebration of Life” service will be held at the Parish of St. Matthew (1031 Bienveneda Ave., Pacific Palisades, CA 90272 310-454-1358) on October 15, 2022 at 11:00 AM Burial Service will take place in Dallas, TX. Arrangements pending at Restland Funeral Home. Sepulveda Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90025 Best Friends Animal Society 5001 Angel Canyon Road, Kanab, UT 84741
